Shannon Terry with Resume Confidence has provided sample resumes showing "before" and "after" versions of the "Quick Make Over" and "Personalized Resume Revamp".
All versions are in chronological style. A chronological resume is the most well-known, 'classic' style. It lists your skills and experience under each job title, in reverse order starting with your most recent employment and working backwards through your history. Chronological resumes show where and when you gained specific work experience. They are a good format for showcasing a strong, stable work history of employment in similar positions and/or industries.
Client information:
Client has a strong work history for his age and career goals
He wants to pursue a sales position
The samples will show:
What’s ‘Wrong’ with the ‘Before’ Sample:
Format is from a standard, online template which lacks originality and impact
Objective statement is generic and should be obvious in the cover letter
Content is a list of ‘duties’ and doesn’t showcase anything special or ‘stand-out’ about the applicant
References and personal information do not belong on a resume
Improvements from the 'Before' resume in the 'Quick Make Over':
Cleaned up formatting and unique style offers an individualized, eye-catching look
Sales award omitted in the ‘Before’ resume grabs attention
Other content spruced up with pertinent details
Information not relevant to a resume has been deleted
How the 'Personalized Resume Revamp' takes it to the Next Level:
Many more accomplishments, trainings, and examples of stand out content have been discovered in the two hour interview and showcased on the resume – real attention getters
Achievements have been quantified for more impact
The format has gone beyond a standard bulleted list into a style selected for the unique needs of this client
This resume is clearly the most professional, and as your marketing tool, communicates a high level of polish and commitment
